Coming Together

Another hot grind in the sun. We…

  1. Worked on pressing and beating the press
  2. Worked on sending and receiving long balls
  3. Worked on reducing touches and moving the ball more quickly
  4. Worked on our shape and letting the ball do the work
  5. Worked on finding the best roles for our talent
  6. Worked on communicating with each other

A long way to go yet but I saw a glimpse today of something special.

Building Grit and Character

Tough, Humble, Together

This is our motto for the season. The guys worked hard today in the heat and sun. We have a long way to go yet. We…

1. Worked on some skill with the ball – soft touch, protect, using the chest, the head

2. Worked on ball winning – an area we will need to improve.

3. Worked on our fitness in teams – I was pleased with the spirit here.

4. Are learning how to play humble and together. Complimenting instead of telling, personal responsibility, not blame. These are skills that must be practiced just like corners or pk’s. Good teams have great character.

5. Worked on some full field scrimmage – we ended 0-0 with mixed teams. Expect changes each day. Wherever you are, be YOUR best. It is all about the team.

Great stuff:

Connor and Justin were strong in the air. Andrew and Owen Miller were also strong winning the ball along with Danny. I liked the danger Harnit and Justin created on the wings and balls by Braden, Dillard, and Connor to find them. Our goalies look great.

We need to get better:

Still that urge for players to want to ref the game or coach their teammates. Stay in your lane. Encourage and compliment, don’t whinge or give orders. When you are home, send positive messages. Be upbeat. What did you do right. What did your teammates do right. What did you like that we did today. Boys to men.

NO WHINGING or BEING BOSSY CLUB Forming Tomorrow (This is a good club to be in!)

Technically, we need to pass the ball more quickly, quickly involving the whole team. Defensive and offensive positioning will be a major focus tomorrow as well.

What a great group of guys we have.

Thank you to Connor for helping cleaning up and Alex and Steve P for helping set up. I really appreciate it guys.

Tomorrow, seniors are on clean-up but of course anyone is welcome to help.

Pictures:

Christmas city had some conflicts so our pictures are now Saturday Morning – I had to make an extra practice for Saturday anyway so we could get in our Mandatory 10 practices before Kutztown next Friday.

We will go 8-10 on Saturday morning with pictures first.

Recover and Relax and good luck to our golfers. I need Anderson to have lowest score or I am doing pushups for the rest of my life.

Any concerns or good vibes, shoot mean an email or call!

Ohh…. add Hetrick to GERONIMO!!!!!

And they’re off!!

Day One is in the books:

Fitness Testing – Check, Heat Acclimatization – Check, Rolling out a shape – Check, Rolling out some themes – Check, Building Confidence – Setting Goals – Check, Realizing Connor Millen won’t take free kicks – Check (Having some fun with Connor here), Battle for Starting Positions – Check, Some Suffering – Check

Fitness Testing Resulted in:

4 Geronimo Class Players – Congrats – Jeff, Danny, Andrew, and Nolan B

More to come on results. These numbers are not the end all be all – Know that. Quality with the ball, game sense, communication, heart, character – these factors among others ALL play a large role in player selection.

Practice Player of the Day Today – Rashad (He worked really hard in all drills and without a jacket!) Great job!

Blue captained by Danny wins the group of the day today – free gatorades for ALL blues tomorrow courtesy of coach.

Practice Plan Tomorrow:

Theme Tomorrow:

Muscle Beach – Sleeveless shirts is the ticket.

Its just the beginning:

Get out of bed tomorrow and come to day 2 no matter how sore you are. Stick with us. The team needs you everyday! Everyone of you!

Jayden and Tyam and Kyle join us tomorrow!

Go Time

Our recurrent themes this year are:

Tough, Humble, Together (THT)

I will ask all players this tomorrow. As will I randomly quiz players on what I post here. The few of you who are checking here, spread the word. This is where EVERYTHING is communicated. Let’s go!!!!

What to bring to Practice?

1. Water bottle you can carry easily. We migrate a bunch around the fields and its nice to have water with you. There will be plenty of water to use for refills out at the fields

2. Sunscreen and bug repellant. Bugs are a Wilson staple and the sun can bronze you up fast in August.

3. Comfortable cleats – tough day to start with new ones – they will need some break in if new so maybe bring the old ones too

4. Anything needed for the theme. Monday is bandana day. A strip of cloth will do if no bandana can be found. Don’t buy one.

5. Any shirt or shorts you want.

6. Shin guards – optional but recommended for practice – mandatory for games. All shin guards worn in games “MUST BE AGE APPROPRIATE” .. itty bitty shin guards are all the rage now but keep in mind, this is an NFHS rule.

7. A ready to rock attitude. I don’t want anyone nervous or worried. We are not going to cut you unless you flagrantly violate team/school rules. Relax, bring your energy, and we are going to have some serious fun.

Last Email Update

As we begin to switch to the official season, I will not be emailing updates to the website. If you would like a email notification every time I post, please subscribe – you will see a field where you can enter your email at the bottom. Alternatively, you can check the website http://www.wilsonwarriorsoccer.com regularly – whichever you prefer. We want to encourage the players to be proactive and responsible for knowing their schedule, reporting times, etc.

We had a brief players meeting last night on zoom. I will post a recording soon that must be watched by any player that was not in attendance.

Here are the guys that were there! Great job Boys!

Steve Barba, Owen Miller, Harnit and Keerat, Levi and Kyle, Yahriel, Dillard, Gigi, Danny, Connor, Jeremiah, Anderson, Alex K, Andrew, Justin, Rocco, James. I know we had some guys trying to get in after we had just started but I had to be careful as we had some mischief from a few folks on the zoom. Sorry about that.

In any case, if you didn’t get to meeting or couldn’t get in, watch a video I will post later today and shoot me an email after you do. Happy Friday! 3 days to season launch!!!
